Comparison profiles bundle the settings that i-net PDFC uses to compare documents. A profile defines, among other things, the comparison mode, the compared content types and the filters in use. You select and edit profiles directly in the comparison interface.
The Configuration application manages the profiles provided by i-net PDFC and installed extensions under Comparison → Profiles. Activated profiles are available in the comparison application's profile selector. When you deactivate a profile, it is no longer offered as a provided profile.
Activation controls the availability of a provided profile. It does not grant permission to edit or publish a profile. At least one provided or published profile must remain available so that users can start comparisons.
The profile selector groups visible profiles by origin:
The selector displays the profile name and description. The Customized status identifies a personal profile derived from a provided profile. The Centrally provided status identifies a centrally managed profile that does not belong to the current user. A warning icon indicates invalid or no longer assignable settings. For an editable profile, the application can offer a cleanup action that removes invalid settings.
The central template of a provided profile is not overwritten by personal changes. If a profile is not editable, duplicate it using Duplicate... and edit the own copy. The sidebar can also maintain a personal customized derivative of a provided template.
The application checks the configuration permission for server-wide administration. Administrators with this permission can manage other users' shared profiles and publish profiles. In the web interface, access to the Users and Groups application is also treated as administrative access when that application is installed.
The owner can edit and delete own profiles. Editing a shared or centrally provided profile owned by someone else is limited to administrators with the required permission and to editable entries. Provided standard profiles cannot be renamed.
Create profile and Actions are located in the profile sidebar header. The available actions depend on the profile origin, editability, permissions, server restrictions and Drive availability:
An imported profile replaces the settings of the selected editable profile. The action menu can hide or disable individual actions. An unavailable action therefore does not indicate that the corresponding function is generally absent in every environment.
The web interface considers the following restriction switches. An enabled switch prevents the stated action:
| Restriction | Effect |
|---|---|
restrictImportProfile | Disables import through Upload file... and From Drive.... Without this restriction, write access and a non-read-only comparison are still required. |
restrictCreatePublicProfile | Disables Publish for profiles published publicly or for users and groups. Without this restriction, administrative permissions and an editable profile are still required. |
restrictDeletePublicProfile | Prevents deleting public, shared or provided profiles owned by someone else. Own profiles are not affected. |
restrictRenameProfile | Disables Edit description.... Even without this restriction, provided standard profiles and personal derivatives with a central template cannot be renamed. |
When you delete a provided standard profile, it is hidden for your user. As soon as such a profile can be restored, Actions → Restore deleted profiles contains the affected profiles. Restoring one makes it available to your user again. A template deactivated server-wide must first be activated under Comparison → Profiles.
For a profile with the Customized status, Actions → Load defaults removes the personal derivative. The original provided profile is used again; the central template itself is not changed.
